Rigid Strapping Tape

Often referred to as athletic tape or sports tape, rigid strapping tape is designed for stabilising joints.rigid strapping tape This premium product features a rubber zinc oxide adhesive and is suitable for both preventative and rehabilitation taping techniques. It restricts the movement of ligaments, tendons and joints helping to prevent injury and re-injury under high stress activity. It is recommended for use on knees, ankles and shoulders, especially when using contact sports.

It is important to remember that rigid tape does not have any elasticity which means it is less suited for swollen injuries as it will not stretch out to accommodate the swelling.rigid strapping tape It is also not suitable to be used over open wounds / grazes and should be covered with an underwrap or non adherent dressing pad before application.

Conventional strapping tape is designed to be used for short periods and should not be left on for a long time, unlike kinesiology tape which can be worn for days at a time. It can be used as a support for injured muscles or joints and works to help with the function of the muscle/joint by giving feedback to the brain that helps to alter the movement. It is not recommended to be used on swollen muscles/joints as it will restrict movement which can cause further restriction and injury.

Rigid tape should be applied in a specific way to ensure maximum effectiveness and is most likely to work when used by people who have been trained in how to apply the specific technique to the body part it is intended to be used on. Often this is done by a physiotherapist or chiropractor.

Similarly to conventional tape, kinesiology tape needs to be applied correctly to ensure maximum benefit and is a great option for those with ongoing injuries. It is ideal for athletes and those needing ongoing support during physical activities and can be used on joints or muscles to aid in function and reduce pain. It works by putting pressure on the skin, lifting the layers of skin which in turn lifts the muscles, increasing the glide and slip between the muscles and skin to provide dynamic support that allows the muscle/joint to move naturally and assists with the blood flow reducing friction and improving the range of motion.

It is also worth noting that if you don't care for your tape properly it will not last. When storing it be sure to keep it in a cool place out of direct sunlight. It is best to store it in a plastic bag as this will protect it from moisture which can cause the adhesive to degrade. In addition to this, it is always a good idea to clean your hands before application and use an underwrap or non-adhesive dressing pad prior to taping to prevent the tape from sticking to the skin which will lead to peeling and injury. It is also a great idea to purchase a bottle of tape remover, which helps with the painless removal of tape residue on the skin.
